jamessuckling.com, November 2020

Really pretty, sweet berries, cherries and fresh flowers on the nose. Orange peel, too. It’s medium-to full-bodied with very fine tannins that are polished and attractive and melt into the wine. Such purity and finesse...

jebdunnuck.com, March 2021

The 2015 Riserva is full of rustic aromatics, along with leather, dense black cherry and plummy fruit. Underneath the intensity of the nose, there is a full-bodied core with a softer, more fruit forward and mouthfilling...

Vinous, November 2020

The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva struts its old-school stylings with a beguiling display of musky cherry and strawberry offset by damp earth tones, hints of cedar and mint. It’s unbelievably soft and silky in...

Wine Spectator, June 2021

Blood and iron mark the aromas of this powerful red, with ripe flavors of plum, black cherry and fruitcake. Very long, fresh and balanced, with the dense, dusty tannins softening and integrating with a few hours aeration...

For over three generations, the Sassetti family has been producing wine in Montalcino. The “Podere Pertimali”, with its 16 hectares of vineyards, is nestled on a slope in the Montosoli hill, north of Montalcino—one of the most favorable terroirs for Sangiovese in the area. Maintaining the family tradition, Livio Sassetti has renovated and extended the vineyards, retaining the genetic material of the original vines and preserving their characteristics.

Livio was among the founders of Consorzio del Brunello di Montalcino in 1967. In 1968, he built a terracotta wall in his cellar, to keep the old vintages of the wines produced by his family. Today, this collection counts over 1000 bottles, among which stands out as the ‘grandmother’ of the current production - a bottle from the 1915 vintage!

In 1999, the Sassetti family purchased a property in the Tuscan Maremma, La Querciolina, within the DOC Montecucco. Thanks to their passion and experience, untended fields were nutured into into vineyards which produce Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo of great quality.

Today, both wineries are managed by Lorenzo Sassetti, Livio’s son, who is focused in continuing his family’s winemaking tradition.
