There are many things I love about wine tasting. One of the great pleasures is tasting wine in barrel and scoring it higher in bottle, which is a true sign of quality. That is what took place here clearly. This wine is...

(98 + points) The 2015 Trotanoy is medium to deep garnet colored. It sings with gorgeous scents of black cherry preserves, blackberry pie, and juicy blueberries, plus wafts of tobacco leaf, licorice, and mossy tree bark...

Another great vintage in this exceptional line-up. This is extremely young, exhibiting a slightly square muscular structure at this point. It’s very tight right now and needs at least another five years before widening...

Pomerol’s famous Trotanoy, whose soil was too hard to work and thus called “trop anoi” (too annoying) in medieval French, is located on one of the most beautiful parts of the Pomerol plateau. The fascinating soil diversity—half gravel mixed with clay and half deep black clay —with the presence of “machefer” or iron pan in the subsoil, brings power, depth and complexity to the wine.

Chateau Trotanoy’s vineyard was one of the few not to freeze in 1956 and today, it is comprised of very old vines, the average being close to 35 years. 90% of the vines are Merlot, the rest Cabernet Franc.

Trotanoy was acquired by Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix, who own many other properties in both Pomerol and Saint-Emilion, including Magdelaine, Belair-Monange, La Fleur-Petrus, Lafleur-Gazin, Lagrange, Latour a Pomerol, and Hosanna.

Trotanoy is vinified in small concrete vats and the young wine matures in 50% new oak barrels for about 18 months. When ready, this wine shows enormous complexity and concentration. It can easily be kept 25 years or more in great vintages.

The 2015 Trotanoy is a Bordeaux Blend red wine that hails from the esteemed Pomerol region of Bordeaux, France. With a deep garnet-purple color that catches the eye, this wine is a true masterpiece in every sense. Produced by Trotanoy, a renowned producer known for their commitment to quality, this wine showcases the exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail that goes into every bottle.

Upon pouring, the 2015 Trotanoy immediately captivates the senses with its striking aromas. The nose is filled with an array of black fruit preserves, plum pudding, red currant jelly, and blueberry compote. As the wine opens up, nuances of rose petals, chocolate box, licorice, and menthol emerge, adding layers of complexity to the bouquet. Additionally, a subtle hint of wild mushrooms adds an earthy element to the aromatic profile.

On the palate, this wine is a revelation. Full-bodied and rich, it envelops the palate with generous layers of perfumed black and blue fruits. The velvety tannins provide a seductive frame that perfectly complements the fruit, while the seamless freshness adds vibrancy and balance. The finish is exceptionally long and mineral-driven, leaving a lasting impression on the palate.

Renowned wine critics have recognized the exceptional qualities of the 2015 Trotanoy. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate awarded it a remarkable score of 97, praising its decadence and minerality. Wine Spectator also lauded this wine, giving it a score of 96 and highlighting its dense fruit and composed feel. TheWineCellarInsider.com went even further, awarding it a perfect score of 100 and describing it as an indulgence of pleasure at its best.

With its impeccable structure and remarkable aging potential, the 2015 Trotanoy is a wine that will continue to evolve and impress for many years to come. It is recommended to cellar this wine for at least another five years to allow it to fully develop, although it can already be enjoyed now with proper decanting. This wine is truly a masterpiece of Bordeaux craftsmanship and a testament to the exceptional quality that can be found in the Pomerol region.
