This is really complex and balanced with lots of chocolate, walnut and currant character. Full to medium body. Wonderful energy and complexity. Drink or hold.

Even darker on the nose than the Uco Valley Malbec, offering scents of blueberry, licorice and violet accented by white pepper, tobacco and spices. Distinctly savory in the mouth but a bit of aeration brings lovely sweetness and generosity of texture. Quite deep but still primary and youthful. Finishes with sneaky building length. This is a bit fresher and more vertical than the Valle de Uco Malbec, which is sweeter and broader, with more velvety tannins. Vignoni told me that the crop level here was about five tons per hectare, including some century-old vines, and that he generally likes these wines best about seven or eight years after the vintage. -- Stephen Tanzer
