Stunningly rich and concentrated, with tremendous structure, the 2016 has so much to offer. Crème de cassis, raspberry jam, lavender, graphite, game, menthol and a whole rush of inky blue/purplish fruit emerge from this explosive, captivating Saint-Émilion. In 2016 Bellevue Mondotte balances sumptuousness with saline-infused energy and persistence. It is without question one of the truly great wines of the vintage. -- Antonio Galloni

This is focused, elongated and the fruit is pristine. The sensation of salt and rocks really pulls through here. This is a wine to cellar for a decade or so; it will be well worth the wait.

(WA 95-97 points) A barrel sample, the 2016 Bellevue Mondotte has a very deep purple-black color and comes bursting out of the glass with well-defined notes of crushed black plums, blackberry pie and chocolate-covered cherries plus hints of Indian spices, potpourri, roasted meats and wood smoke. The palate is very big, rich, full and built like a brick house with a firm frame of grainy tannins and fantastic freshness, finishing very long and layered. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown

This almost pure merlot shows a solid core of dark berries and a hint of dark chocolate. Full-bodied, ripe and round with compact tannins. Extremely long and intentional. Gorgeous finish. Drink after 2025.

(WS92-95 points) Very, very solid, showing a core of delicious blackberry and dark plum fruit laced with anise and light bramble notes. Has a dose of toast, but it’s integrated and the finish has drive, thanks to a buried chalky spine. — J.M.

(WE92-94 points) This wine is already well-balanced between the ample acidity, fruitiness and structure. There are bright aromas, plenty of good fruitiness on the palate and a solid background structure. A fine showing for this Gerard Perse estate, it has the freshness and elegance of the vintage.

The full-bodied palate offers firm grip, luscious ripe tannin and black cherries mixed with boysenberry jam and fig. The grippy finish is almost oppressive. This is a gargantuan Saint-Émilion – nothing new there – though I would like more precision on the luxuriant finish. -- Neal Martin
