Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy, September 2019
Light to mid purple, very elegant alpine strawberry nose, lifted and balanced. Pure, clean, sensual and very long indeed with some attractive black pepper mixed into the concentrated raspberry fruit.

There is outstanding volume and intensity to the imposingly-scaled flavors that possess first-rate mid-palate concentration along with an abundance of dry extract that imparts a velvety texture to the firmly structured and beautifully persistent finish. This well-balanced effort is classic Mazoyères and very much built-to-age.

The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe red berry fruit, fine mineralité, quite dense (especially toward the second half) with touches of blood orange and spice toward the finish. This gets more interesting as it goes along! Good potential.

Vinous, October 2019
The 2016 Charmes-Chambertin Les Mazoyères Grand Cru feels a little loose-knit on the nose with strawberry preserve, raspberry and pot pourri aromas. Pretty, but needs more focus. Pretty, but needs more focus. The palate is medium-bodied with gritty tannins. There is a firm backbone to this Mazoyères. It feels curt and rather blunt on the finish that shows evidence of whole bunch. Hopefully it will flesh out with bottle age. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. -- Neal Martin
