(92-94 points) This is quite aromatically similar to the Corton with perhaps just a bit less sauvage character. There is outstanding volume and intensity to the imposingly-scaled flavors that possess first-rate mid-palate concentration along with an abundance of dry extract that imparts a velvety texture to the firmly structured and beautifully persistent finish. This well-balanced effort is classic Mazoyères and very much built-to-age.

(92-94 points) The 2016 Charmes Chambertin les Mazoyeres Grand Cru, which is 100% whole cluster from their single parcel of century old vines, has a tightly wound, quite floral bouquet that gradually opens with aeration but remains a little laconic compared to its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe red berry fruit, fine mineralité, quite dense (especially toward the second half) with touches of blood orange and spice toward the finish. This gets more interesting as it goes along! Good potential.

The 2016 Charmes-Chambertin Les Mazoyères Grand Cru feels a little loose-knit on the nose with strawberry preserve, raspberry and pot pourri aromas. Pretty, but needs more focus. The palate is medium-bodied with gritty tannins. There is a firm backbone to this Mazoyères. It feels curt and rather blunt on the finish that shows evidence of whole bunch.
