The Vosne villages is extrovert on the nose, bursting from the glass with creamy raspberry and currant fruit, framed by spicy new oak. On the palate the wine is velvety and open-knit, with cool acids and good balance, but is missing a bit of depth, concentration and seriousness to rank as a truly top-flight rendition of this prestigious AOC. (90+) The 2016 Vosne villages had finished up malo earlier and was absolutely singing at the time of my visit. The bouquet is pure, sappy and elegant, delivering a fine blend of raspberries, red plums, duck, Vosne spice tones, a lovely base of soil and cedar. On the palate the wine is fullish, suave on the attack and sappy at the core, with beautiful balance and grip, fine backend mineral drive, fine-grained tannins and a long, tangy and nascently complex finish. This is a lovely village wine. (Drink between 2020-2040)

(88 - 90) The 2016 Vosne-Romanée Village was not really touched by the frost, according to winemaker Maxime Chuerlin. The bouquet is well defined with brambly red fruit, touches of tobacco and smoke in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, fine purity and fine structure on the finish. I like the personality of this Vosne-Romanée. It just seems to "sing."- NM
