A stunner, with beautiful pear, green fig, yellow apple and quince notes that are creamy and sweet, yet seamless and refined in feel. The extremely long finish lets honeysuckle and verbena notes dance throughout, with a light echo of white ginger at the very end. Best from 2020 through 2040. 1,000 cases made. –JM

The 2016 Clos du Bourg Moelleux from Domaine Huët is an exceptional young wine in the making, with a depth and intensity that is almost a match for the 2015 Première Trie version, but without the same heavy influence of botrytis. The bouquet is deep, primary and stunning, wafting from the glass in a mix of pear, pineapple, sweet quince, honeycomb, chalky soil, spring flowers and orange peel. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and vibrant, with great depth at the core, laser-like focus, beautiful soil signature and a very, very long, nascently complex and energetic finish. This is a puppy and will demand some extended hibernation to start to show all of its layers of complexity, but when it is ready for the primetime, it will be legendary juice! (Drink between 2025-2075)

The 2016 Vouvray Clos du Bourg Moelleaux is tropical and slightly oaky on the complex, spicy-mineral nose. Rich, super lush and nicely piquant toward the finish, this is an excellent, complex, well-structured and mineral though young baby Chenin Blanc that doesn't make much sense to be drunk young. The finish is pure, piquant and salty but also very aromatic and complex, with lingering tannin grip and intense fruit. Bottled with 57 grams of residual sugar and just 4.3 grams of acidity, which gives this a charming and mouth-filling character. Fine tannin structure here. Tasted February 2018. - Stephan Reinhardt
