The 2016 Le Haut Lieu Moelleux from Domaine Huët is excellent, as it shows off the same degree of elegance as the Sec and Demi-Sec versions, but with greater depth and vibrancy. The nose jumps from the glass in a complex and very floral blend of quince, pear, honeycomb, iris blossoms, lovely soil tones, a hint of orange peel, lavender and apple blossoms. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and complex, with a lovely core, excellent soil signature, bright acids and outstanding balance on the long and classy finish. This is concentrated from passerillage, rather than botrytis, and wines of this style age in exemplary fashion. This is very, very easy to drink today, but it is still a puppy and deserves some extended time in the cellar to really blossom.

Huet's 2016 Vouvray Le Haut-Lieu Moelleux offers a clear, fresh and intense bouquet of ripe and super-ripe fruits along with some chalky aromas. Lush, sweet and piquant, with cooked apricot flavors on the palate, this is a generous, precise and very elegant Haut-Lieu that will develop very well over the next several decades. The wine has grip and tension on the finish and reveals a persistent salty purity. There is no makeup anywhere but pure potential. A gorgeous wine not because it's sweet (51 grams of residual sugar) but lush, precise, long and stimulating. Tasted February 2018. - Stephan Reinhardt

The delicate nose demonstrates aromas of ripe apricots, pear and apple laced with fresh and pleasant herbal elements. The approach on the palate is generous and round with stone fruits, especially apricot and white peach. There is medium density through the mid-palate with a fine line of acidity and subtle minerality in perfect harmony with the sweetness – very elegant mouthfeel. The finish is subtle and lengthy with a touch of almond skin. Drinking well now and will continue to do so for the next 15+ years.
