Rich purple, not quite clear yet. This definitely has the plums (‘pruliers’) but they have not gone pruny. It is fully ripe though. This displays a marvellous core of really dense ripe concentrated fruit, a few tannins, a lovely fresh thread throughout. Very stylish.

(90-93) While this isn't quite as aromatically elegant as the Roncière, it is still quite pretty with its perfumed aromas of both red and dark berries, earth and a subtle hint of humus. The rich, generously proportioned and dense medium weight plus flavors possess impressive power while delivering equally good depth and length if not quite the same minerality. This is presently very firmly structured and is a wine that clearly is going to require patience; indeed I would advise holding this for a minimum of 7 to 8 years first and 15+ will likely be necessary.

(VN 91-93 points) Bright red-ruby. At once more complex and more precise on the nose than the Roncière, offering aromas of blackberry, loganberry, elderberry, violet and dusty stone but none of the herbal or menthol notes this vineyard often displays. Sweet, ripe and pliant; fuller-bodied than the Roncière but given shape by harmonious acidity. Finishes with horizontal, fine-grained tannins and excellent persistence. (WA 90-92 points) The 2016 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les Pruliers has the most introverted bouquet (this despite jabbering with Etienne Grivot about his family history to allow the wine time to open in the glass!). Nevertheless, the palate is very well balanced with filigree tannin. There is a lovely saline note here, very precise and energetic with a slight chalkiness to the texture on the finish. I suspect that it will flesh out more once in bottle. - Neal Martin
