Stunning roasted pears on the nose with a hint of pineapple. Rippling with ripe fruit, and the hint of sweetness is amplifying that. Great structure behind that, and a long, warm yet mineral finish. Drink or hold.

If you so will, it is the "second wine" of the Grand Cru Brand. In 2016, these were the first Rieslings harvested, "but the fermentation took a year to complete," says Olivier. Sourced from 15- to 38-year-old vines, the 2016 has an intense yellow color and offers rich, warm fruit on the nose but also delicate flinty notes from the granite terroir of the grand cru. On the palate, the vertically structured wine is fresh, refined and elegant, revealing remarkable finesse and vitality on the salty and piquant finish that reveals remarkable length with structured, intensely lush and tropical fruit flavors. The yields were 65 hectoliters per hectare, and the wine fermented to 12.3% alcohol plus eight grams per liter of residual sugar. - Stephan Reinhardt
