Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou is named after the beautiful large stones that characterize its unique Saint-Julien terroir. Unusual for Bordeaux, it is one of the only castles to be built directly above the barrel cellars and one of the few estates producing a ‘Grand Cru Classe’ still inhabited by its owners. The Borie family has owned this estate and has lived here for over sixty years, in the sumptuous aromas of their wine.

Rated a second growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, Ducru sits on an exceptional site with incomparable views over the Gironde estuary. Its 75-hectare vineyard is planted 70% to Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% to Merlot with an average vine age of 35 years.

Today, the estate is managed by the company Jean Eugene Borie SA, which is owned by Mrs. Borie, her daughter Sabine Coiffe and her son Bruno-Eugene.

Ducru-Beaucaillou is a fine, elegant, and delicious wine with a long finish - in short, an archetypal Saint-Julien. The grapes are hand-picked, and the sorting process takes place on mobile tables in the vineyard to keep the healthy grapes separate from substandard ones. Fermentation is by traditional techniques and only the best fruit is used to produce the wine.

Introducing the 2016 Ducru Beaucaillou, a Bordeaux Blend from the renowned St Julien region in France. This wine is a true masterpiece that encapsulates the essence of elegance and sophistication. With a deep, enticing red color, it immediately captivates the eye and promises a sensory experience like no other.

On the nose, this wine unveils a symphony of aromas that dance gracefully together. The initial impression is one of super perfumed violets, followed by a delicate thread of fresh blueberries, cassis, blackberries, and dark plums. The ripeness of the fruit is truly remarkable, giving the wine a beautiful depth and allure.

As you take your first sip, the perfectly ripe tannins caress your palate, creating a velvety texture that is both graceful and plush. The layers of flavors meld seamlessly, showcasing the dark fruit in all its glory. The wine carries these flavors deep into a vibrant and seductive finish, laced with hints of chocolate. The potential of this wine is truly great, and it is recommended to wait until 2024 to fully appreciate its splendor.

This Ducru Beaucaillou is highly praised by wine critics and experts. James Suckling awards it an impressive score of 99 points, noting its beautiful ripeness and enticing impression. Vinous also gives it a score of 97 points, describing it as having an ethereal bouquet and supple tannins. Wine Spectator joins in the praise, awarding it 97 points and praising its exotic flavors and serious grip. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate gives it a score of 98+ points, highlighting its opulence and epic length. Wine Enthusiast awards it 98 points, emphasizing its density and complex structure. Jeff Leve gives it a perfect score of 99 points, appreciating its voluptuousness and balance. Jane Anson awards it 98 points, stating that it is at the top of what St Julien can produce.

In conclusion, the 2016 Ducru Beaucaillou is a wine of exceptional quality and finesse. Its harmonious blend of flavors, velvety texture, and impressive aging potential make it a true gem in the world of Bordeaux wines. Whether enjoyed now or cellared for future enjoyment, this wine is sure to leave a lasting impression on all who have the privilege of experiencing it.
