The 2016 Gazin Rocquencourt is gorgeous, radiant and incredibly inviting, just as it was en primeur. Blackberry jam, chocolate, cloves, spice and new leather are all fused together, but it is the wine's textural depth and impeccable balance that make it absolutely irresistible. An entire spectrum of ripe red-fruit aromas and some sour cherries make this an immediately appealing red. MId-weight but concentrated with elegant tannins and a long, fresh and moderately dry finish. Very food-friendly. Drink or hold.

Gazin Rocquencourt is a Pessac estate that's on the ascent and deserves to be more widely known. This vintage is a good example of why, with its silky texture, black fruits and confident, refined frame evident right from the off. The difference between this and the 2017 is the depth and width to the fruit here, but it will inevitably take longer to come around.

The fruit here is so ripe, lush, juicy, fresh and rich, it is hard not to ask for another glass.
