(93–95 points) Barrel Sample. Big and bold, this wine, produced from a biodynamic estate, is packed with dark tannins and intense fruit. It is solid and fruity, clearly built for the long haul. ROGER VOSS

There's a little less grip than you might expect, but it serves to show how it's still possible to make St-Emilions that respect a sense of vitality in the fruit by holding off from heavy extraction. Matured in 50% new oak. 38hl/ha yield. Stéphane Derenoncourt consults.

The deep garnet-purple colored 2016 La Tour Figeac sings of warm blueberries, Black Forest cake and kirsch with nuances of dried Mediterranean herbs, yeast extract, tilled soil and fallen leaves plus a hint of tree bark...   The deep garnet-purple colored 2016 La Tour Figeac sings of warm blueberries, Black Forest cake and kirsch with nuances of dried Mediterranean herbs, yeast extract, tilled soil and fallen leaves plus a hint of tree bark. Medium to full-bodied with a firm, chewy texture, the palate gives bags of herb-laced black fruit layers and a long, earthy finish.- LPB

Offering good ripeness in its black cherries, raspberries, forest floor, and smoked earth aromas and flavor, it’s medium to full-bodied, has terrific balance, and a layered, lengthy, elegant style that’s going to drink nicely for 15 years or more.
