One of the series of great Grand Cru wines from this producer, this is powerful, opulent and seductive. Broad, rich red fruits mask dense tannins that back up the wine and give it concentration and longevity. This wine will age for many years and will not be drinkable before 2026. ROGER VOSS

96+ Tasted from bottle, the 2016 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) is showing marvelously, unfurling in the glass with a deep bouquet of juicy cherries, cassis, blood orange, violets and rich spices, its framing of new oak already almost entirely integrated. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, multidimensional and utterly complete, with a bottomless core of cool, sappy fruit that entirely conceals its supple but abundant tannins. Immensely concentrated and strikingly structurally refined, this is a brilliant Clos de Bèze that's more classically balanced than the more overtly ripe 2015. - William Kelley

A concentrated cherry note anchors floral, spice, mineral and tobacco flavors in this muscular red. A core of acidity provides structure and keeps this red focused and energetic. Fine balance and length. Best from 2024 through 2048. — B.S.

(93-95) This too displays bourgeon de cassis reduction and plenty of wood influence. More positively, there is a bit more mid-palate concentration to the more refined yet still tautly muscular broad-shouldered flavors that possess slightly better complexity and equally good length on the ever-so-slightly warm finale. Note well that this superb effort is also very firmly structured and is likely to age glacially over many years.

The Clos de Bèze was one of the more reticent wines in the cellar when I tasted it in October 2017, opening with a brooding bouquet of dark berries, grilled meat, espresso and new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and powerful, with a deep core of fruit and a chewy chassis of fine-grained, savoury tannins. This shows lots of promise and should be very cellar worthy. In contrast to the youthfully closed down Chambertin, the 2016 Clos de Bèze chez Jadot was really showing well at the time of my visit. The bouquet is pure, complex and vibrant, wafting from the glass in a fine mix of red and black cherries, grilled meats, dark soil tones, espresso, woodsmoke, bitter chocolate and spicy oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and rock solid in the mid-palate, with suave, ripe tannins, tangy acids and laser-like focus on the very long, soil-driven and complex finish. Great juice.
