I can't say the 2016 is especially subtle, but it packs tremendous punch. Super-ripe plum, pomegranate, blood orange, mint and espresso are framed by a good bit new oak. Readers should expect a full-throttle, extravagantly ripe Saint-Émilion. The 2016 has so much to offer. -- Antonio Galloni

The 2016 Lucia was aged in 50% new and 50% one-year-old Taransaud and Ana Sélection barrels for 12 to 16 months. Stéphane Derenoncourt created this wine with the late owner, Michel Bortolussi, and his team consult. Deep garnet-purple colored, it opens with beautiful Black Forest cake and blueberry pie scents with wafts of mocha, black soil, cigar box and Indian spices. The palate is medium to full-bodied, firm and velvety, with seamless freshness, finishing long and layered.-LPB

This has a generous, quite pure bouquet of black cherries, iodine and hints of wild mint. It takes a few moments just to settle down. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, and quite grippy and mineral-driven, especially toward the finish, where those old vines on limestone soil really dictate the classic style of this Saint-Émilion. Excellent. -- Neal Martin
