(93-95 points) Another gorgeous effort being represented in the United States by importer Eric Solomon, the 2016 Faugeres Rarissime is a blend of 70% Syrah, 25% Grenache and 5% Mourvèdre, aged in new oak. It starts with knockout aromas of violets, licorice, blueberries and sassafras, while the full-bodied palate is broad and expansive while seeming weightless at the same time. Texturally, it comes in somewhere between silk and velvet, with a firm underpinning of finely ground stone dust and hints of cocoa on the finish. It should drink well for a decade or more. - JC
