jamessuckling.com, December 2020

This is really beautiful with black cherries, porcini mushrooms, black walnuts and dried flowers on the nose. It’s full-bodied, yet very toned and tight with class and precision. Wonderful length and focus. Goes on for...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, December 2020

In years past, I have commented on the pretty mineral nuances laced into the bouquet of this single-vineyard wine. The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Vigneto Manachiara delivers those tones with extreme clarity and...

Decanter, March 2021

Truly the loveliest Manachiara I have tried and among my favourite wines of the vintage. Produced since 1995, it is crafted from Nardi’s vineyards near Castelnuovo dell’Abate in a warm yet breezy spot with cool nights and...

Vinous, November 2020

The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Vigneto Manachiara is fruit-forward and seductive. It's exotic, showing spiced black cherries, hints of tangerine, sweet herbs and mocha. The textures are velvety, weighty yet pure...

Wine & Spirits, April 2021

The Manachiara vineyard lies in Montalcino’s southern sector, near Castelnuovo dell’Abate. Its 40-year-old vines, planted on sandy clay slopes with southeastern exposures, yielded a powerful expression of Brunello in the...

Wine Spectator, June 2021

Vanilla and toasty oak aromas and flavors are wrapped around a core of cherry, plum and tobacco in this stylish red. With air, the oak recedes and a mineral element emerges. Shows fine balance and a lingering finish. Best...

Wine Enthusiast, May 2021

The nose is rather shy but eventually reveals new leather, forest floor, cedar and rose. The concentrated palate is still primary, featuring dried cherry, licorice and coffee bean framed in tightly knit, close-grained...

Tenute Silvio Nardi is a Tuscan wine estate founded in 1950 by Silvio Nardi with his purchase of Casale del Bosco’s estate in Montalcino. The vineyards, located in a primarily hilly area that ranges from 460 to 1,575 feet above sea level, comprise 36 plots that extend to the east and west of Montalcino and are grouped into three estates.

From Casale del Bosco comes the precious cru Brunello Poggio Doria, an elegant, aristocratic interpretation of Sangiovese. Casale del Bosco is located on the west side, offering elegant and complex wines. Manachiara, exposed to the east, offers full bodied and powerful wines.

Sangiovese is the estate’s tradition and has been planted on almost all of the estate’s lands although, in 8 of the 80 hectares owned, different varieties can be found—from most traditional varieties like Colorino to international ones like Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot.

Emilia, Silvio Nardi’s youngest daughter, joined the business in 1985 and since 1990 has succeeded her father in the general management of the estate, and has undertaken a reorganization of the vineyards and the cellar.

Silvio Nardi Brunello Manachiara is the wine of sunrise, the wine from the East. Full-bodied with chewy tannins, fresh fruit and acidity, it is a lively style of wine.

The wine has an intense, deep ruby red color with slight garnet highlights. It has clean, intense and complex aromas of ripe fruit, accompanied by floral notes, and enhanced with a delicate spicy component. On the palate it shows a mellow first impact, continuing with a steady evolution, supported by the right degree of acidity. Great structure, with supple, sweet and enveloping tannins and very good length, this is an excellent wine to lay down.
