As early as 1365, grapes have been grown on the property now known as Smith-Haut-Lafitte. Originally owned by the noble Bosq family, the estate was purchased in the 18th century by Scotsman George Smith. Its present name was taken from Smith and the Pessac region’s gravel plateau known as Lafitte.

In 1842, Mr. Duffour-Dubergier, mayor of Bordeaux and an enthusiastic winegrower, inherited Chateau Smith-Haut-Lafitte from his mother and brought the wine up to great growth status. The property changed hands again in 1958 when it was purchased by the Louis Eschenauer Company. After the Eschenaueur period came to an end, a great deal of money has been invested in the estate, particularly on the construction of a superb underground cellar holding over 1,000 barrels.

In 1990, Daniel Cathiard fell in love with the property and joined the list of prestigious owners, firmly intending to further enhance Smith-Haut-Lafitte's tradition of excellence. He combined the most modern winemaking techniques with age-old artisanal methods, including organic compost, small wooden vats, and lees-aging. Famous around the world for its wonderfully elegant red wine and the sophisticated bouquet of its white wine, Smith-Haut-Lafitte undoubtedly deserves the special care that is lavished on it.

The 2016 Smith-Haut-Lafitte Blanc is a remarkable white wine hailing from the Bordeaux region of France. This Bordeaux Blanc is crafted with meticulous attention to detail, resulting in a wine of exceptional quality and finesse. With a beautiful golden color that shimmers in the glass, this wine exudes elegance from the very first pour.

On the nose, the Smith-Haut-Lafitte Blanc unveils a captivating bouquet of gregarious pineapple, green guava, and fresh grapefruit. These vibrant citrus aromas are complemented by hints of green apples, orange blossom, crushed rocks, and honey drizzled peaches. The aromatic complexity is truly enchanting, captivating the senses and inviting the taster to delve deeper into the glass.

Medium to full-bodied, this wine caresses the palate with a gorgeous satiny texture. Tropical flavors of pineapple and guava mingle harmoniously with zesty citrus notes, creating a symphony of flavors that dance on the tongue. The finish is long and deliciously savory, leaving a lasting impression that lingers on the palate.

Renowned wine critic Lisa Perrotti-Brown of Robert Parker's Wine Advocate awards this wine an impressive score of 96 points, praising its tantalizing flavors and luxurious texture. Wine Spectator also lauds this Bordeaux Blanc, awarding it a score of 94 points and describing it as showy and refined. James Suckling, Jeb Dunnuck, and Jeff Leve also chime in with glowing reviews, extolling the wine's complexity, balance, and potential for aging.

With its enchanting aromas, luscious flavors, and impeccable balance, the 2016 Smith-Haut-Lafitte Blanc is a true masterpiece. It is a wine that showcases the artistry and craftsmanship of the esteemed Smith-Haut-Lafitte estate. Whether enjoyed now or cellared for further development, this Bordeaux Blanc is sure to impress even the most discerning wine connoisseurs.
