The 2017 Saint Chinian Je Me Souviens is 80% Mourvèdre (from schist and limestone soils) and 20% Syrah (from schist). Matured 24 months in new French oak, this inky-hued wine shows little overt wood—the fruit has submerged it under plush layers of ripe plums and blueberries, plus floral and spice notes. It's full-bodied and rich, concentrated and powerful but balanced, with tremendous length and velvety tannins on the lingering finish. From one of the top producers in the appellation, it might be the wine of the vintage. - JC
