Wine Enthusiast, March 2021

A hundred percent Grenache sourced entirely from safre, or sandy soils, the Chaupin is a scintillating, red fruited delight packed with flavors of raspberry jelly and red cherry preserves. It's a gorgeously silky...

jebdunnuck.com, August 2019

97+ Deeper colored, the 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Chaupin comes mostly from the Chaupoin lieu-dit yet always has small parts from La Janasse and a sandy part of the La Crau lieu-dit. Blackberries, ground herbs...

Decanter, November 2018

Mostly grown on the sandy soils of lieu-dit Chapouin, with some Crau and Janasse components too, the oldest vines were planted way back in 1912. Two-thirds of the wine are aged in foudre, one-third in demi-muid. It's very...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, August 2019

The all-Grenache 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Chaupin is sourced from sandy soils and ages in a combination of foudres and demi-muids. It shows more structure than the regular cuvée, supporting the ripe raspberry and...

jamessuckling.com, October 2019

There’s a very rich and deeply detailed edge here and the 20% whole clusters are certainly adding some interest and complexity at this early stage. The palate has a firmish and fresh feel with a wealth of detailed tannin...

Warm cherry and plum paste flavors form the core, with melted red licorice, singed balsam and grilled herb notes. Reveals a gentle tug of earth at the very end. A strong effort for the vintage. Drink now through 2034. — ...

Domaine de la Janasse, in the Southern Rhone, was founded in 1967 by Aime Sabon. Having returned from military service, he took over management of the family vineyards and formed an estate label, named after the family farm in the locality of “La Janasse”. A cellar was built in 1973 and new plots were acquired, growing the total holdings from 15 hectares to more than 90 today.

In 1991, after earning diplomas in viticulture, oenology and marketing, Aime’s son Christophe Sabon was given the keys to the cellar. His sister Isabelle joined the team in 2001.

La Janasse grows all 13 permissible grapes in the Chateauneuf-du-Pape appellation to give complexity and depth to their different wines. They produce 3 red and 2 white Chateauneuf du Pape wines, red, white and rose Cotes-du-Rhone, and a number of IGP wines.
