Intensely coloured, with 80% new wood for support, this is aromatic and textured, unfurling aromas and flavours of liquorice, blueberry and rose petal in the glass. It's sappy and focussed, with filigree tannins. collapse

There is more volume if less power to the more generously proportioned medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate with dry extract that also helps to buffer the moderately firm tannic spine. This has the legs to age well over the medium to even longer-term but should drink reasonably well young if desired. collapse

It has quite an intense bouquet with small black cherry, blackcurrant and subtle pressed iris flower scents. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity, very cohesive in the mouth. The wood integrates nicely on the finish even if I would have just dialed it down. Maybe a little more personality on the finish is needed to get up there with the best from this Grand Cru. -- Neal Martin collapse
