jamessuckling.com, January 2020

Attractive, intense aromas of ripe blueberries, currants and more savory, tarry notes, as well as iodine, violets and cassis. The palate has a supple and succulent feel. This is cabernet in outright seductive mode...

jebdunnuck.com, October 2023

From a great vintage that flies too far under the radar (it's certainly better then 2004, 2006, and 2007), the 2017 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou has that classic Ducru-Beaucaillou sense of purity and elegance, with medium to...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, May 2018

Freshness and accessibility are the hallmarks of this wine. The customary level of density is improved with added grace, elegance, pliability and an upbeat, spicy core of attention seeking fruits. This is not to say that...

Decanter, June 2021

The 2017 Ducru-Beaucaillou is the first wine of the fantastic vertical tasting held by Bruno Borie. It has both a deep and elegant bouquet of dark berries, blueberry, spices, and blackcurrant; as well as a fine palate...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, March 2020

(96+ points) Deep purple-black in color, the 2017 Ducru-Beaucaillou slowly unfurls to reveal beautifully fragrant notes of warm kirsch, wild blueberries, fresh red and black currants and violets with wafts of underbrush...

The Wine Independent, September 2023

A blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot, the 2017 Ducru-Beaucaillou is deep garnet in color. It comes bounding out of the glass with eager-to-please scents of fresh blackcurrants, black raspberries, and kirsch...

Wine Enthusiast, March 2020

While the dense and dark tannins are prominent, they can't mask the exuberant fruit that wants to burst out. Blackberry flavors are impressively ripe and rich, shot through with acidity that gives the wine salinity as...

Wine Spectator, March 2020

A suave and seductive wine, with a beautifully caressing mouthfeel to the layers of warmed plum, steeped boysenberry and blackberry compote flavors. Licorice snap, mesquite, wood spice and black tea notes swirl around as...

janeanson.com, April 2023

Proving that Ducru is so often able to rise above challenging years, this is one of the wines of the vintage, showing beautifully even at six years old. Lovely dark spices, intense and concentrated blackcurrant and black...

Vinous, July 2022

The 2017 Ducru-Beaucaillou appears to have gained a little opulence since I last tasted it, just after bottling. Here it is armed with precocious blackberries, bilberry, violet petals and potpourri. Wonderful definition...

Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou is named after the beautiful large stones that characterize its unique Saint-Julien terroir. Unusual for Bordeaux, it is one of the only castles to be built directly above the barrel cellars and one of the few estates producing a ‘Grand Cru Classe’ still inhabited by its owners. The Borie family has owned this estate and has lived here for over sixty years, in the sumptuous aromas of their wine.

Rated a second growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, Ducru sits on an exceptional site with incomparable views over the Gironde estuary. Its 75-hectare vineyard is planted 70% to Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% to Merlot with an average vine age of 35 years.

Today, the estate is managed by the company Jean Eugene Borie SA, which is owned by Mrs. Borie, her daughter Sabine Coiffe and her son Bruno-Eugene.

Ducru-Beaucaillou is a fine, elegant, and delicious wine with a long finish - in short, an archetypal Saint-Julien. The grapes are hand-picked, and the sorting process takes place on mobile tables in the vineyard to keep the healthy grapes separate from substandard ones. Fermentation is by traditional techniques and only the best fruit is used to produce the wine.
