This estate is based in Santa Maria di La Morra (in the Barolo appellation), although one of its historic vineyard holdings is located in the adjacent Barbaresco appellation. The Figli Luigi Oddero 2017 Barbaresco Rombone draws its fruit from a 2.5-hectare site in Treiso at an ideal 290 meters above sea level. The wine presents a pretty, open-knit bouquet with dark berry fruit, crushed flowers, tar and some dusty-earthy aromas. Licorice-like aromas also stand out. The tannins are well played in this warm vintage and appear well integrated into the fiber of the wine. Some 8,000 bottles will hit the market in October 2020.- ML

Juicy and elegantly structured, the savory palate doles out raspberry, strawberry compote and star anise accompanied by taut, refined tannins. It has surprising freshness for the scorching vintage.
