The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru soars from the glass with an exquisite bouquet of raspberries, cassis, dried rose petals, cinnamon and cloves. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and supple, with an expansive attack that segues into a fleshy core of sweet and succulent fruit, framed by lively acids and melting tannins. Generous, open and expressive, this will offer a broad drinking window and is well worth seeking out. - WK

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru has an open nose of brambly red fruit, sous-bois and wilted rose petals, very pure and charming, and not dissimilar in style to François Bertheau's Chambolle 1er Cru. The palate is very harmonious, open and transparent. It feels lighter than others, yet the tension and precision will see this age with style, and perhaps it will not close down. The 2017 Chambolle Premier Cru chez Drouhin was still in cask in November and showing lovely potential. The bouquet is deep and classy, wafting from the glass in a nicely sappy blend of cherries, red plums, raw cocoa, chalky soil tones, gamebird, a touch of mustard seed and a lovely base of new oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and elegant, with a good, solid core, lovely shape and bounce, moderate tannins and fine length and grip on the complex and refined finish.
