It's a beautiful, layered wine that delivers the goods, offering loads of black raspberry fruit, notes of spice, garrigue, licorice, and pepper, medium to full body, good acidity, and a great finish. Beautifully balanced, it can be drunk today with incredible pleasure or cellared for 15 years or more. collapse

Impressive, rich red and dark fruit aromas and flavors here with a very balanced, fleshy palate that is bathed in ripe-plum and summer-berry flavors. Drink or hold.

Expressive aromas of fresh red berries, candied lavender and smoky minerals take on a subtle garrigue nuance with aeration. Juicy and energetic on the palate, offering appealingly sweet raspberry, cherry and floral pastille flavors that display outstanding delineation. Shows real energy and finishes long and gently tannic, with lingering mineral and floral notes. -- Josh Raynolds collapse

Pierre Usseglio

Domaine Pierre Usseglio was founded in Chateauneuf-du-Pape by Pierre’s father, Francis in 1948. Pierre eventually took the reigns and, since 1999, his children have run the estate. The Domaine holds 15 small vineyard plots throughout the AOC, totaling 22 hectares. Only one of those hectares is planted to white grapes. The remainder, with a mix of rocky and sandy soils, represent approximately 75% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 6% Mourvedre, 5% Cinsault, 2% Counoise and 2% Muscardin. Domaine Pierre Usseglio makes three red wines and one white.
