jamessuckling.com, January 2020

A very pure nose that exudes poise and precision, in every aspect of this wine’s composition. Aromas of violets, blueberries, cedar, fresh truffle, wet earth and plums lead to a palate that offers a very full, plush and...

(96-98) A star of the vintage, this is a stunner. If you are a Pomerol lover and you are not intimately familiar with Trotanoy, put it on your priority list. They have been on a hot streak for over two decades! And this...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, March 2020

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Trotanoy is 100% Merlot and begins quite stubborn and broody on the nose at this youthful stage, needing a lot of coaxing to reveal a core of plum preserves, blackberry pie...

Wine Spectator, March 2020

A lush, velvety Pomerol, dripping with raspberry, plum and cassis fruit aromas and flavors, infused with rooibos tea, sandalwood, mineral and bergamot notes. The finish is very long and finely beaded. Best from 2022...

The 2017 Chateau Trotanoy checks in as 100% Merlot and comes from 7.2 hectares of gravelly, clay, and iron-laced soils on the plateau of Pomerol. Revealing a medium ruby/purple hue as well as powerful notes of creme de...

Wine Enthusiast, March 2020

Showing the depth and power of ripe Merlot, this wine has concentration and great richness. Its tannins and bold black fruit flavors point to considerable aging potential. Drink the wine from 2023. - ROGER VOSS

Pomerol’s famous Trotanoy, whose soil was too hard to work and thus called “trop anoi” (too annoying) in medieval French, is located on one of the most beautiful parts of the Pomerol plateau. The fascinating soil diversity—half gravel mixed with clay and half deep black clay —with the presence of “machefer” or iron pan in the subsoil, brings power, depth and complexity to the wine.

Chateau Trotanoy’s vineyard was one of the few not to freeze in 1956 and today, it is comprised of very old vines, the average being close to 35 years. 90% of the vines are Merlot, the rest Cabernet Franc.

Trotanoy was acquired by Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix, who own many other properties in both Pomerol and Saint-Emilion, including Magdelaine, Belair-Monange, La Fleur-Petrus, Lafleur-Gazin, Lagrange, Latour a Pomerol, and Hosanna.

Trotanoy is vinified in small concrete vats and the young wine matures in 50% new oak barrels for about 18 months. When ready, this wine shows enormous complexity and concentration. It can easily be kept 25 years or more in great vintages.
