Chateau Mangot is a Right Bank Bordeaux estate situated in the east of the Saint-Emilion appellation, within the boundaries of Saint Etienne de Lisse. The estate has a long history dating back to 1546, described in 1559 as having plots of vines planted in ‘belts’ and ‘lines’.

The estate’s 85-acre vineyard is planted primarily with Merlot complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The average age of the vines is 40 years with some Merlot parcels over 60 years of age. The vineyard has four zones of terroir that include 21 separate plots at altitudes between 115 and 280 feet. Soils are mostly clay and limestone making for interesting final blends. The greater limestone presence also gives the Mangot wines density and fullness while retaining freshness, tightness and minerality.

Today, I am delighted to introduce the exquisite 2018 Chateau Mangot from the renowned Saint Emilion region in Bordeaux, France. This Bordeaux Blend showcases the epitome of elegance and sophistication, reflecting the expertise and dedication of Chateau Mangot.

In the glass, this red beauty presents a deep garnet-purple hue that immediately captivates the eye. The nose is a symphony of enticing aromas, with layers of chocolate-covered cherries, licorice, and earth intertwining harmoniously. As you delve deeper into the wine, notes of bright blackberry, crushed blueberries, and warm plums emerge, accompanied by hints of lilacs and cedar. It is a true olfactory delight that promises an extraordinary tasting experience.

On the palate, the 2018 Chateau Mangot reveals its true character. Rich, plush, and polished, this wine caresses the senses with its silky tannins and impeccable balance. The concentrated flavors of black and blue fruits are vibrant and pure, creating a symphony of taste that dances on the tongue. As the wine lingers, a refreshing finish leaves a lasting impression, inviting you to savor every moment.

Crafted with the utmost care, the 2018 Chateau Mangot has been aged in a combination of new French oak and clay amphora, adding further complexity and depth to its profile. With an alcohol content of 14.5%, this wine showcases both power and finesse, making it a standout in its class.

Leading critics have recognized the exceptional quality of this vintage. Jeff Leve awarded it an impressive 93 points, praising its freshness and concentration of flavors. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate bestowed an outstanding score of 95, highlighting its layers of vibrant black and blue fruits and firm, rounded tannins. James Suckling awarded it 92 points, recognizing its tight, linear structure and recommending it for enjoyment after 2023. Jeb Dunnuck scored it 91 points, commending its purity of fruit and overall harmony. Vinous also recognized its potential, awarding it 92 points and predicting a period of closure before it blossoms into its full glory.

In conclusion, the 2018 Chateau Mangot is an extraordinary Bordeaux Blend that embodies the essence of Saint Emilion. Its finesse, complexity, and balance make it a true gem in the world of wine. Whether you choose to enjoy it now or cellar it for a few more years, this wine promises an unforgettable experience that will transport you to the heart of Bordeaux.
