Green papaya, pomelo, cream, flint and hints of wax on the nose. It’s full-bodied with bright acidity and a creamy texture. Concentrated and refined with seamless layers, leading to a long, mineral finish. The phenols with fruit and acidity are a formidable combination. Keeps going. Try from 2022.

(93-95) The 2018 Cos D'Estournel Blanc includes slightly more Sémillon and is 67% Sauvignon and 33% Sémillon brought up all in barrel, with just 7% being new. Richer notes of crushed citrus, tart peach, white flowers, and salty minerality all emerge from this beauty. It's medium to full-bodied, clean, nicely concentrated, and has a great finish. It's one of the richer whites in the vintage, yet it stays vibrant and racy, with beautiful acidity. Bravo.

The blanc has higher levels of Sémillon this vintage, which may have helped produce both the texture and the depth that are on display here. It feels like a serious white wine, with a grip and minerality that's in no rush to show itself, but is clearly there by the way that it snugly moves through the palate. It has a pretty strong slate texture on the finish and overall this is a delicious white, equal to the 2016 for sure although not quite up to the 2017 - but very close behind. The grapes for this white wine come from one of the more northerly sectors of the Médoc vineyard. It's a white wine that I strongly recommend, particularly over the past few years, when it has refound a grip and tension that balances out the opulent flesh that is a signature of the house style of Cos. You're going to find plenty of powerful lime zest, smoked almond and lemon curd, a round mouthfeel through the mid palate with hints of saffron on the mouthwatering finish.

Youthful and crisp, with little effort, the spark of honeysuckle, orange, grapefruit, vanilla and lemon hits the perfume. On the palate this wine is drenched in brightness, yellow citrus and a hint of honey, providing a fresh, refreshing, juicy experience. (94+ points) The 2018 Blanc is composed of 67% Sauvignon Blanc and 33% Sémillon and was matured in 7% new barriques (13.88% alcohol). It opens very slowly, with a lot of coaxing, to reveal fragrant scents of lime blossoms, yellow apples and fresh grapefruit plus hints of crushed rocks, straw and sea spray. The medium-bodied palate has a beautiful satiny texture and fantastically intense citrus and apple layers with loads of mineral and herbal sparks on the long finish.
