Domaine de la Côte’s whole-cluster expression is never subtle, especially when first opened. This wine smells like crushed bergamot and violets, a heady aroma that doesn’t prepare you for the depth of dark, sweet berry fruit it delivers. Earth, mushroom and amaro spices emerge on the finish. It’s got a lot to say, and will need some cellar time to bring it into focus. —P.J.C. (W&S 10/20; 250 cases)
