93+ As I noted in the introduction, the grand crus chez Michel are all in the 13.5 percent range and were a bit more behind in their evolutions in the cellar at the time of my visit. The Vaudésir offers up lovely aromatic promise in its blend of pear, apple, a hint of tangerine, anise, chalky soil tones, straw and a floral topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and a touch riper and more tropical in personality than the Montée de Tonnerre, with good mineral undertow, bright acids and a long, vibrant and youthfully complex finish. This is very good, but stylistically, I have a very slight preference (at least at the present time) for the Montée de Tonnerre and Butteaux “Vieilles Vignes” bottlings this year.
