Eighty Four’s 2018 Albariño is estate grown in Carneros, where the cool coastal fog benefits the vines as much as it does for Albariños from their home region of Galicia, Spain. Fermented in stainless steel barrels and with no oak influence or malolactic fermentation, is how winemaker Elias Fernandez chooses to keep its many layers of melon, peach, and jasmine and to enhance its vibrant character. This relatively new project is overseen by Napa stalwart Doug Shafer and their 2018 Albariño earned the ‘Editors’ Choice’ designation from Wine Enthusiast, showing that the skills of the Shafer team translates to varietals outside of the Shafer lineup (Hillside Select, One Point Five, Relentless, etc).
