From the Sausal's schist soils and Polz's highest vineyard at 500 meters above sea level, the 2018 Sauvignon Blanc Ried Theresienhöhe –1STK– Therese is a stainless-fermented terroir wine of great substance, grip and complexity. Pure and crystalline yet also rich and intense on the coolish and refreshing, flinty and coolish nose, this is a tightly structured yet extract-rich and thus juicy and intense Sauvignon with sur lie notes. Then, toward the finish, there's firm mineral and phenolic grip that represents the youth of this substantial and age-worthy Therese that reveals a compact, complex and very long finish. 13.5% alcohol. The nose is shy but allows notions of lemon to peek through. The palate then comes in with the same lemon freshness that highlights a lovely texture of yeast, lending slight creaminess, and fruity impressions of passion fruit and ripe peach. There is a lovely slenderness and earthy balance at work here. The finish is long, refreshing and dry. ANNE KREBIEHL MW
