The Fontaines' parcel is comparatively large at 0.8ha is planted on a mixture of different soil types. Fermented and aged in 33% new wood, it has aromas of iodine and oyster shell, plenty of weight and mid-palate texture, focused acidity and a dusting of nutmeg and vanilla spice. Energetic and refreshing, with real vibrancy and length.

Pretty and perfumed, the 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Boudriotte bursts with notes of white flowers, pear and peach. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, lively and elegant, with succulent acids and a nicely defined finish.- WK

Here the overtly floral-suffused nose displays aromas of very pretty and relatively elegant essence of pear, apple, spice and citrus peel. The lilting and refined if not particularly concentrated flavors possess a lovely sense of vibrancy, all wrapped in a solidly complex, sneaky long and refreshingly dry finale. This is really quite attractive and is also fashioned in an understated style.

The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet La Boudriotte 1er Cru comes from a single parcel on chalky soils. It has a clean, precise bouquet with more mineralité compared to other crus from the domaine, the terroir coming through nicely. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity and gentle grip. A little honeyed toward the finish, with touches of melon and praline on the aftertaste. -- Neal Martin
