Transparent energy to this. Needs a couple of years. Better in 2023 onwards.

It’s always one of the best values out there. The 2018 sports a dense purple/plum color as well as a smoking bouquet of red and black fruits, minty tobacco, chocolate, and gamey nuances. Rich, full-bodied, and concentrated, yet also with good freshness and ripe tannins, it's going to benefit from a handful of years of bottle age and evolve for a decade.

Unmistakably Syrah on the nose, the 2018 MCK Syrah opens with flashy, dark-berry fruit expressions with a spicy and mineral undertone. Full-bodied and boisterous, the palate is approachable in youth with lively tannins...   Unmistakably Syrah on the nose, the 2018 MCK Syrah opens with flashy, dark-berry fruit expressions with a spicy and mineral undertone. Full-bodied and boisterous, the palate is approachable in youth with lively tannins that are food-friendly now yet will be able to age for more than a decade. Flavors of peppercorn-crusted game, dusty violets and dried herbs float across the mid-palate before gliding to a long, winding finish. Over 17,000 bottles were filled after the wine rested for 18 months on the lees in 17% new demi-muids. This bottling has remained a screaming deal since day one. Bravo! - Anthony Mueller

Taut and deeply structured, with smoked meat, blueberry and black olive flavors that build toward broad-shouldered tannins. Best from 2022 through 2029. – TF
