Black cherry jumps out, with some Dr Pepper accents. This is a dark, spicy wine with appealing sweetness to the fruit and the spices. They are backed with a phenolic frame of sharp and bitter herbs, nicely positioned and proportionate. The overall impact is to enhance the depth and detail of the wine. This is muscular, substantial, slightly earthy and just tannic enough to age gracefully. PAUL GREGUTT

Glistening ruby. Cherry cola, black raspberry, candied flowers and hints of mocha and licorice on the expressive nose. Palate-coating red and dark fruit preserve flavors convey a suave blend of depth and energy. A spicy nuance adds lift and carries through the very long, smooth and smoke-tinged finish, which is framed by supple, well-knit tannins. 23% new French oak. -- Josh Raynolds
