jebdunnuck.com, March 2021

A full-bodied powerhouse as well as a perfect wine, the 2018 Château Montrose is a final blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 6% Cabernet Franc that was raised in 60% new French oak. Boasting a deep purple hue...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, March 2021

Inky in color, the wine is opaque. On the nose, spice box, smoke, espresso, roasted black and red fruits, flowers and 5 spice come through. On the palate the wine is intense, full-bodied, rich, dense, opulent, sweet...

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Montrose comes bounding out with powerful notes of blackcurrant cordial, chocolate-covered cherries, blueberry compote, and red roses, followed by scents of Indian spices, graphite...

janeanson.com, June 2021

Silky, young, clear spice notes, more so than in any other vintage in the lineup except for the 2003. Plenty of stuffing through the palate, with blueberry, cassis, hawthorn, tumeric, saffron but also caramel and black...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, December 2023

(95+ points) A hulking monster of power and extraction, the 2018 Montrose offers up rich aromas of mulberries, cherries, dark chocolate and violets. Full-bodied, broad and ample, with a textural attack that segues into a...

Wine Spectator, March 2021

Dark and winey, with a well-built core laden with cassis and dark plum puree while flashes of anise, lilac and charcoal fill in throughout. Finish has hints of chestnut and warm earth for a burly edge, but there's ample...

Chateau Montrose is situated five kilometers north of Pauillac in Saint-Estephe, on a very well-drained and ideally exposed gravelly outcrop which runs for over a kilometer along the Gironde estuary. The 95-hectare (234-acre) vineyard surrounds the chateau, the winery, and the outbuildings, planted to a mix of grape varieties with Cabernet Sauvignon making up 60% of the vines, with parcels of Merlot (32%), Cabernet Franc (6%) and Petit Verdot (2%).

Succeeding three generations of the Charmolue family, Martin and Olivier Bouygues acquired Chateau Montrose in 2006. Acquiring a love of Montrose wines from their father, and keenly aware of the potential of its unique terroir, they decided to invest in their passion. Under their management, Montrose entered the 21st century with a spectacular reconstruction.

This great, predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon wine is typical of the Saint-Estephe appellation. With rigorous selection in both the vineyard and the winery, Chateau Montrose is structured and tannic, yet possesses the elegance and refinement of a Grand Cru Classe. With time, it develops a delicate and complex bouquet.

The best vintages of Montrose are exceptionally long-lived, with certain vintages (1921, 1929, 1982, 1990, and 2009) considered to be legendary. The blend is roughly equivalent to the vineyard plantings - 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, with the balance from Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The wine is matured for 18 months in 60% new oak barrels.

Introducing the 2018 Montrose, a Bordeaux Blend that hails from the prestigious region of St Estephe in Bordeaux, France. This remarkable wine showcases the expertise and craftsmanship of the renowned producer, Montrose. With its deep garnet-purple color, it immediately captivates the eye and sets the stage for an extraordinary sensory experience.

On the nose, this wine exudes purity and beauty, with a symphony of aromas that include blackberry, blueberry, raspberry, crushed-stone, and violet. It is a bouquet that demands attention and promises a journey of flavors and complexities.

As it caresses the palate, the 2018 Montrose reveals its full-bodied nature and showcases masses of polished tannins. The flavors of currants and blackberries intensify and dance on the taste buds, creating a truly memorable experience. The finish is juicy and lingering, leaving a lasting impression that resonates long after the last sip.

This wine has garnered high praises from esteemed critics, further solidifying its status as an exceptional Bordeaux offering. James Suckling awarded it an impressive score of 98 points, noting its depth and recommending to try it after 2027. Wine Enthusiast gave it a score of 97 points, acknowledging its concentration, density, and fruit purity that will allow it to age gracefully for many years. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate also awarded it 98+ points, describing it as a wine of great opulence, richness, and depth, with a fantastic 40+ years of cellaring potential.

The 2018 Montrose is a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. It boasts an alcohol percentage of 14.5% and is sealed with a traditional cork closure, maintaining the authenticity and tradition of Bordeaux winemaking.

In conclusion, the 2018 Montrose is an extraordinary red wine that showcases the true essence of Bordeaux craftsmanship. With its impeccable structure, intense flavors, and impressive aging potential, it is a wine that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on any discerning wine enthusiast.
