"The crown of the vintage (as long as the TBA has not yet been bottled)," said Stefan Doktor, when he served me the 2018 Schloss Johannisberger Riesling Beerenauslese Purpurlack. Picked during the whole main harvest period between mid-September and mid-October, the golden-yellow wine is very clear and concentrated on the fresh and zesty, very complex and aromatic nose that displays stewed apricot and lemon chutney aromas intertwined with wholemeal bread notes. Intense and very elegant on the palate, this is a noble, sweet and spicy-piquant BA in a very digestible and stimulating style. The 2018 is highly precise and stimulatingly fresh and crystalline, even salty, and the balance here is really remarkable. It's a TBA, in fact, according to the analytical data that states 275 grams of residual sugar and a total acidity of nine grams per liter. A total of 290 liters were filled last June, with 7.5% alcohol. Tasted in August 2019. - SR
