Decanter, May 2020

Rich plum colour. This takes its time to open, is pretty subtle at first, but then explodes in juicy fruit. Clear salinity where you can feel the slate scrape of the limestone terroir, alongside well expressed aromatics...

Plums, currants, pine cones, mushrooms and bark on the nose. Some licorice, too. It’s medium-bodied with tightly knit tannins. Tight and fresh with fantastic tension and drive. Refined and focused. Spicy and lightly salty...

The Wine Independent, May 2023

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Beau-Sejour Becot saunters out with easy-going scents of juicy blackberries and plum preserves, followed by hints of cedar, potpourri, and fallen leaves. The medium to full-bodied...

Vinous, February 2023

The 2019 Beau-Séjour-Bécot just lacks a bit of energy on the nose, dusky black fruit, sous-bois and dry tobacco. Old school. The palate is medium-bodied with finely-hewn tannins, very well balanced, lovely purity with a...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 2022

(94+ points) The 2019 Beau-Séjour Bécot has turned out nicely, wafting from the glass with aromas of cassis, wild berries, raw cocoa, spices and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it's deep and layered...

The Beau-Sejour Becot vineyard is situated on the western plateau of Saint-Emilion, in the old parish of Saint-Martin de Mazerat. The estate covers 18.5 hectares of which 16.52 hectares are planted with Merlot (70%), Cabernet Franc (24%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (6%) on chalky soil with fossilized starfish. The average age of the vines is 40 years old and the fruit is harvested by hand.

This wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in 80-100% new barrels depending on the vintage. It then ages in the cellar for 16 to 18 months at constant temperature of 16 degrees Celsius. Annual production is approximately 60,000 bottles.

Introducing the exquisite 2019 Beau-Sejour-Becot from the renowned Saint Emilion region in Bordeaux, France. This Bordeaux Blend showcases the mastery of winemaking by Beau-Sejour-Becot, a producer with a long-standing reputation for excellence. With a regal plum color that catches the eye, this wine is an absolute delight for the senses.

On the nose, this wine initially reveals its subtlety, enticing the drinker with delicate aromas that gradually evolve into an explosion of juicy fruit. The limestone terroir shines through with a distinctive salinity, reminiscent of the slate scrape of the region. The aromatics are beautifully expressed, with hints of peony flowers adding a touch of elegance to the bouquet.

Upon tasting, the wine reveals its true character. Medium-bodied and succulent, it captivates the palate with layers of rich, dark fruit flavors. Ripe raspberry, plum, and boysenberry dance on the tongue, while notes of violet, red tea, and sweet tobacco add depth and complexity. The finish is long and racy, leaving a pure and clean sensation that is often rare to achieve in this vintage.

The blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon in this wine is perfectly balanced, showcasing the expertise and skill of the winemaker. The tightly knit tannins provide structure and elegance, while the fantastic tension and drive create a refined and focused experience. The finish is lightly salty, adding a unique touch that lingers on the palate.

With a recommended aging potential of at least two decades, this wine will continue to evolve and develop over time. It is best enjoyed from 2026 onward, allowing its flavors to fully mature and integrate.
