jamessuckling.com, February 2022

The bouquet of this is like a huge bunch of flowers, although many of the aromas go in the balsamic, leathery and spicy directions. With a little aeration smoke and cigar tobacco notes develop. Deep blackberry and...

jebdunnuck.com, February 2022

(96+ points) The 2019 Côtes Rotie Nève comes from the Mica schist soils in the northern part of the appellation and it’s always a more mineral-laced, firmer expression of Côte Rôtie. Black cherry, cassis, new leather...

Vinous, December 2022

Inky ruby. Expansive aromas of blackberry, cherry and boysenberry, with exotic spice, potpourri and olive notes building in the glass. Deeply pitched and broad on the palate, offering intense, mineral-accented black and...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, January 2022

From a lieu-dit that sits quite high on the slope, the 2019 Cote Rotie Neve shows a bit more oak than the Mordoree bottling, featuring vanilla and cedar layered atop raspberries and black cherries. Full-bodied, it's rich...

Wine Spectator, July 2022

A dark and brooding Côte-Rôtie, with black fruit and violet emerging from a background of charred mesquite, singed wild herbs, bitter dark chocolate and smoked meat. Needs time in the cellar to fully express its...

Decanter, October 2020

Chapoutier is one of the oldest wine producers in the Rhone Valley with a history dating back to 1808. A distant ancestor, Polydor Chapoutier, was the first to buy vines here, shifting from being a simple grape grower to making and trading his own wine. For the last two hundred years, the estate has been producing some of the greatest wines in the Rhone Valley. Today, the range also includes wines from some Roussillon appellations as well as projects in Portugal and Australia.

Under Michel Chapoutier’s leadership, quality improved and Chapoutier gained international recognition. The massive negociant and winery produces single-vineyard expressions and classic wines from a range of appellations in the north and south of the valley.

They have adopted biodynamic farming techniques and have included Braille markings on their labels since 1996. This was done from a desire to reach out to and include lovers of good wines with sight-impairments, and as a tribute to Maurice Monier of La Sizeranne, a member of the family that previously owned the vines of the same name and who invented the first abbreviated version of Braille.
