A very fine wine, rich with its tannins and its structure. The wine is powerful without losing sight of its fine fruits, black currant flavors and acidity. Balanced and with great potential. Drink from 2027. ROGER VOSS

Vinous, February 2023

The 2019 Ducru Beaucaillou has a pastille-like purity on the nose - black cherries, blueberry, quite floral and Margaux-like in style. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, showy and opulent, yet undeniably...

Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou is named after the beautiful large stones that characterize its unique Saint-Julien terroir. Unusual for Bordeaux, it is one of the only castles to be built directly above the barrel cellars and one of the few estates producing a ‘Grand Cru Classe’ still inhabited by its owners. The Borie family has owned this estate and has lived here for over sixty years, in the sumptuous aromas of their wine.

Rated a second growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, Ducru sits on an exceptional site with incomparable views over the Gironde estuary. Its 75-hectare vineyard is planted 70% to Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% to Merlot with an average vine age of 35 years.

Today, the estate is managed by the company Jean Eugene Borie SA, which is owned by Mrs. Borie, her daughter Sabine Coiffe and her son Bruno-Eugene.

Ducru-Beaucaillou is a fine, elegant, and delicious wine with a long finish - in short, an archetypal Saint-Julien. The grapes are hand-picked, and the sorting process takes place on mobile tables in the vineyard to keep the healthy grapes separate from substandard ones. Fermentation is by traditional techniques and only the best fruit is used to produce the wine.

Introducing the 2019 Ducru Beaucaillou, a Bordeaux Blend from the renowned St Julien region in France. This red wine is a true masterpiece, crafted by the esteemed producer Ducru Beaucaillou. With its seductive allure and refined elegance, this wine is sure to captivate even the most discerning of palates.

In the glass, the Ducru Beaucaillou displays an inky, deep, and shiny purple color, hinting at the depth and concentration that awaits. The nose is a symphony of aromas, with perfumes of violets, blackcurrants, raspberries, and a touch of orange peel. It is subtle and ethereal, drawing you in with its complexity and allure.

On the palate, this full-bodied wine reveals itself with finesse and delicacy. The tannins are remarkably fine and velvety, adding to the wine's overall elegance. It possesses great length and beauty, with amazing purity and depth. The combination of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot creates a harmonious blend, showcasing the best of both varietals.

Renowned wine critic James Suckling awarded this wine an impressive score of 98 points, praising its sophistication and refined nature. He recommends cellaring this wine for at least five or six years to fully appreciate its potential. Jeb Dunnuck, another respected critic, bestowed a perfect score of 100 points upon the 2019 Ducru Beaucaillou, declaring it the wine of the vintage in Saint-Julien. He commends its concentration, flawless balance, and incredible tannins, predicting that it will evolve for 50 years or more.

Other critics echo these sentiments, with Jeff Leve calling it one of the wines of the vintage and Decanter highlighting its precision winemaking and complex profile. Vinous praises its glorious bouquet and Pauillac-inspired style, while Robert Parker's Wine Advocate notes its power and muscularity. Wine Enthusiast describes it as a very fine wine with great potential.

With its exceptional reviews and impressive pedigree, the 2019 Ducru Beaucaillou is a wine that demands attention. Whether enjoyed now or cellared for future enjoyment, this wine is a true gem that showcases the best of Bordeaux. Don't miss the opportunity to experience this extraordinary expression of St Julien terroir.
