(91-93 points) A more elegant and even fresher nose is comprised by a pretty blend of both red and dark pinot fruit, sandalwood, violet and a subtle touch of wood. There is better volume and richness to the attractively textured and refined medium-bodied flavors that brim with dry extract and a subtle minerality on the balanced, long and bitter cherry pit-inflected finale. This needs to develop more depth but considering the underlying terroir, that shouldn't present any significant problems.

A portion of the harvest at Clos de Tart has traditionally been declassified as premier cru and given the proprietary name La Forge (after the original 12th century name for the site). These wines are tasted at the halfway point in their maturation, racked and blended, and then put back into cask to finish ageing. The 2019 La Forge is delicious, with ripe black fruit on the nose, a dense texture and a luxurious, silky finish. (Drink between 2022-2029)

The 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis La Forge de Tart 1er Cru has an open nose with touches of potpourri infusing the red berry fruit, brown spices and just a faint hint of espresso. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, quite fresh and tensile towards the finish that feels very precise. This is very promising. -- Neal Martin

Revisited in bottle, the 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru La Forge de Tart wafts from the glass with aromas of raspberries, sweet spices, rose petals and orange rind. Medium to full-bodied, layered and velvety, with an ample core of fruit, powdery tannins and lively acids, it's seamless and harmonious, promising a broad drinking window. - William Kelley
