Wine Enthusiast, December 2022

There's something so alluring and enticing about the Fay, named for Nathan Fay, who first planted Cabernet Sauvignon in what is now Stags Leap District back in 1961. It shows old-school dust, clove and graphite, with...

jebdunnuck.com, February 2023

Just about pure perfection, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Fay reveals a vivid purple hue as well as spectacular aromatics of blueberries, black cherries, sappy herbs, and tobacco. Full-bodied and perfectly balanced, with a...

jamessuckling.com, October 2022

Concentrated, with lots of black and purple fruit and crushed violets. Broodingly dark and youthful at this stage, but remains elegant. Fleshy, dense and full-bodied with a mouthful of finely polished tannins that...

Decanter, June 2022

Fragrant violet florals, ripe berry fruit and dusty minerality lift out of the glass along with heady sweet oak spices. Saturated red and black fruit flavours with Chinese five spice, sandalwood and pulverised rocks...

Vinous, December 2023

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon FAY is a gorgeous, succulent wine. Soft contours wrap around a core of plum, black cherry, mocha, incense and new leather. This mid-weight, open-knit Cabernet is quite the charmer. Drink it...

Wine Spectator, January 2022

Packed with bramble, blackberry and black currant pâte de fruit notes, this has good energy, while lacings of licorice and mocha fill out the finish. Lots of immediate appeal here, but there's no rush. Drink now through...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, September 2022

(92+ points) The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Fay Vineyard offers a perfumed nose marked by delicate purple raspberry notes and a touch more herbal, tea-like nuances than the 2018. It's medium to full-bodied in the mouth but...

Founded in 1970, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars is the winery which won the Cabernet Sauvignon competition in the famous 1976 Judgment of Paris.

The Stag’s Leap Vineyard (S.L.V.) was planted in 1970 on soils predominantly volcanic in nature and contribute multi-layered structure, concentration and spicy intensity - often referred to as the “fire” elements. This vineyard produces wines with complex black fruit and berry character, excellent structure and complexity, promising long life and ageability. Today, the property includes roughly 35 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and 1.5 acres of Merlot.

The Fay Vineyard adjoins the S.L.V. and is where the story of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars began. Established by pioneering grape-grower Nathan Fay in 1961, it was the first planting of Cabernet Sauvignon in what is now the Stags Leap District. The vineyard was purchased by the winery in 1986 and named in his honor.

Fay’s soils, more alluvial in makeup, yield more of the “water” elements of softness, perfume, and rich berry qualities. It produces fruit with an abundance of supple red and black berry character, voluptuous perfume and a luscious, fine-grained texture. The 66-acre vineyard is planted primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon with a half-acre of Petit Verdot.
