(93-95 points) The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru wafts from the glass with aromas of cherries, wild berries, warm spices, orange rind and a deft application of creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, it's deep and concentrated, with velvety tannins, lively acids and a beautifully integrated, complete profile. For some 70% of this cuvée, Mortet's team processed the harvest manually, cutting out the clusters' central rachis while retaining the grapes and their pedicels intact. The result is the best rendition of this cuvée to date. - WK

(92-94 points) Petite Chapelle, Cherbaudes, Belair, small plots of old vines. Two thirds whole bunch in the decorticated style, with the main stem removed, one third new wood. Arnaud suggests that these vineyards represent three sides of Clos de Bèze. An open vibrant purple, stylish rather than super-concentrated on the nose one might say. Some wood too. A little touch of liquorice behind the alpine strawberry fruit. Long and fine.

(90-93 points) An elegant, pure and airy nose reflects overtly sauvage and pungently earthy aromas of red raspberry, dark pinot and cool spice whiff. The mouthfeel of the solidly concentrated middle weight flavors is positively gorgeous with evident minerality suffusing the sneaky long, balanced and more complex finale. Lovely juice with very good development potential.

(91-93 points) A blend of lieux-dits (Petit Chapelle, Cherbaude and Belair), the 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru contains 60% whole bunch. This has a much more floral bouquet with peony and iris scents, vibrant black fruit with more red fruit surfacing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, slightly chalky almost powdery in texture with fine depth and a palpable sense of energy on the finish. Excellent. (Drink between 2025-2040) - NM
