There are plenty of ripe black plum and fig aromas, with strong components of earth and leather. Despite all the ripeness here, the wine is still balanced. Winemaker Jérôme Flous says: 'It is not far from 2018, but the acidity is much more interesting'. This 2.6ha vineyard is a monopole of the domaine. Flous remarked that it is 'a dry terroir in a dry vintage; south-facing, and very hot.' (Drink between 2025-2040)

(WA 91-93+ points) Aromas of raspberries, cherries, sweet spices, raw cocoa and peonies preface the 2020 Beaune 1er Cru Clos de l'Écu Monopole, a medium to full-bodied, concentrated and vibrant wine with tangy acids, melting tannins and a long, saline finish. This is very promising. - William Kelley
