jamessuckling.com, May 2021

(JS 98-99 points) This is incredibly classic in style with so much currant, lead pencil, crushed stone and sweet tobacco. It’s full-bodied with minerally, stoney and powerful tannins. It goes on and one. Real Las Cases...

jebdunnuck.com, March 2023

Another 2020 that's going to demand patience, the 2020 Château Léoville Las Cases is a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated blend that includes 11% Cabernet Franc and 8% Merlot that was raised in 80% new French oak. It's a regal...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, May 2021

(96-98 points) Dark garnet in color, the wine pops with aromas of tobacco leaf, cigar box, cedar, herbs, black currants, coffee and spice. Refined, fresh, polished and firm, the fruit is vibrant, long and intense. The...

Vinous, February 2023

(98+ points) The 2020 Léoville Las Cases has developed into a powerhouse. Then again, that is Las Cases. En primeur, I thought the 2020 was a bit shy, but its true personality has to emerge. Blackberry jam, gravel...

Wine Enthusiast,

(96-98 points) Barrel Sample. The wine's richness comes both from the dark tannins and the pure, classic black currant flavors. Acidity, yes, but surrounded by dense fruits and tannins that give the wine considerable...

Decanter, January 2023

Perfumed touches on the nose, quite high toned, blackcurrant but almost liqueur with rose petal and candy floss nuances. On the point of ripeness, still tense, not hugely expansive in the mouth or particularly weighty but...

janeanson.com, December 2022

Richly textured from the first moment, pencil lead, cassis, black cherry, cigar box, liqourice and espresso, just waves of utterly gorgeous flavours. I highly recommend that if you can find a way to taste a young Las...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 2023

(97+ points) The 2020 Léoville Las Cases is a classic in the making, unwinding in the glass with aromas of cherries, cassis, loamy soil, violets and dark chocolate framed by a discreet touch of new oak. Full-bodied...

Wine Spectator, November 2022

Sleek and slightly austere in feel, with a cold cast iron note framing a core of tightly compressed cassis, plum and blackberry fruit flavors. Shows subtle flashes of tobacco and smoldering charcoal as well, as the finish...

One of the oldest Medoc estates, Domaine de Leoville belonged to some of the wealthiest and most influential noble French families before it was acquired by the Las Cases family. Like many properties after the French Revolution, the estate was divided between 1826 and 1840 into the three Leovilles we know today: Leoville-Las Cases, Leoville-Poyferre and Leoville-Barton.

Chateau Leoville-Las Cases was created, thanks to a kind of birthright, from three-fifths of the original estate, including the very heart of the property. The Grand Vin has therefore been sourced from the best part of the original terroir since the 17th century.

Pierre Jean, Adolphe, and Gabriel de Las Cases were successive heirs to the property until 1900, when Theophile Skawinski purchased a share in the estate and became its manager. Leoville-Las Cases has now been managed by the same family since the late 19th century and is today represented by Jean-Hubert Delon, sole owner of the chateau and proprietor of Chateau Potensac in the Medoc and Chateau Nenin in Pomerol.

The Grand Vin is the product of exceptional terroirs from the heart of the original Leoville estate. These are located mainly in the Clos Leoville-Las Cases, which you pass as you leave the village of Saint-Julien for Pauillac. They extend over nearly 60 hectares producing Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc with a complex, polished expression and characteristics which are totally unique to the Grand Vin of Las Cases.

Introducing the 2020 Leoville-Las Cases, a Bordeaux Blend that hails from the esteemed region of Bordeaux, France. This exceptional red wine is a true representation of the classic style, showcasing elegance, power, and complexity. With a deep garnet color that catches the eye, it exudes an air of sophistication and refinement.

The nose is an intoxicating blend of currants, lead pencil, crushed stone, and sweet tobacco. These aromas intertwine seamlessly, creating a symphony of scents that captivate the senses. Upon the first sip, the wine reveals its full-bodied nature and the presence of minerality and stoney undertones. The tannins are powerful yet refined, providing structure and depth to the wine. It continues to evolve on the palate, unfolding layers of flavors that progress into notes of violet, graphite, and licorice.

Renowned wine critic James Suckling awards this wine an impressive 99 points, describing it as a true representation of the iconic Las Cases. He praises its solid and enduring character, emphasizing its potential for aging and development. Decanter also lauds this vintage, noting its perfumed touches on the nose and its vibrant and compelling energy. They predict that this wine is a "sleeping beauty" that will awaken with time, revealing its true potential.

The 2020 Leoville-Las Cases is a blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, and 8% Cabernet Franc. It boasts an alcohol percentage of 13.68% and a pH level of 3.80, indicating its excellent balance. The harvest took place from September 12 to September 27, making it the earliest vintage since 1989.

With rave reviews from esteemed critics such as Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Jeb Dunnuck, and Wine Enthusiast, this wine is truly a masterpiece. It demands patience and promises a remarkable drinking experience in the coming decades. Whether enjoyed now or cellared for future enjoyment, the 2020 Leoville-Las Cases is an exceptional wine that embodies the essence of Bordeaux winemaking at its finest.
