With origins dating back to 1638, Saint Julien's expansive Leoville estate was the largest vineyard in all the Medoc at the time of the French Revolution. After various successions and changes, the estate was eventually divided into the three Leoville properties we know today: Leoville-Las-Cases, Leoville-Barton, and Leoville-Poyferre, established in 1840. The outstanding quality of Leoville Poyferre wines gained early recognition when it was ranked second growth in the 1855 Classification.

The various divisions throughout the history of the estate have split the vineyards of Leoville-Poyferre into five large areas. They include all the main types of gravely, well-drained soils present in Saint Julien and a balanced environment for the vines. This diversity contributes to the wines magnitude and complexity.

Chateau Leoville-Poyferre was most recently acquired in 1920 by the Cuvelier family. Didier Cuvelier has presided over the destiny of this gem since 1979. Chateau Moulin-Riche (from a specific terroir) and Pavillon de Leoville-Poyferre (from younger plots of vines) are also produced at the estate.

Chateau Leoville-Poyferre is elegant, finely balanced and complex with intense color, velvety texture and excellent aging potential.

The 2021 Leoville-Poyferre is a remarkable Bordeaux Blend from the esteemed St Julien region of Bordeaux, France. With a deep red color that exudes elegance and sophistication, this wine is a true delight for the senses.

On the nose, aromas of sweet berries and plums mingle with spices, licorice, and petals, creating a mesmerizing bouquet. These enticing scents are beautifully framed by a deft touch of creamy new oak, adding depth and complexity to the wine.

On the palate, this medium to full-bodied wine showcases a supple and fleshy texture that is both polished and charming. The pretty core of fruit shines through, accompanied by lively acids and ripe, powdery tannins. The wine concludes with a penetrating finish that leaves a lasting impression.

The 2021 Leoville-Poyferre is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot. This carefully crafted combination of varietals results in a wine that is well-balanced and harmonious.

Renowned wine critics have praised the 2021 Leoville-Poyferre for its exceptional quality. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate awarded it 94 points, describing it as a wine with considerable promise and a blend of sweet berries, plums, spices, and creamy new oak. Jane Anson awarded it 95 points, noting its supple texture and clear aging potential. Jeff Leve gave it 95 points, highlighting its dark garnet color, soft and silky texture, and vibrant fruit flavors. Jeb Dunnuck awarded it 97 points, emphasizing its richness, concentration, and remarkable overall balance. James Suckling awarded it 96 points, praising its typical St.-Julien characteristics and velvety texture. Decanter awarded it 95 points, describing it as beautifully fragranced with layers of flavor and a lightness of touch. Vinous awarded it 95 points, noting its pliant fruit, silky tannins, and fine balance.

With its exceptional quality and rave reviews, the 2021 Leoville-Poyferre is a wine that should not be missed. Whether enjoyed now or aged for years to come, this Bordeaux Blend is sure to impress even the most discerning wine connoisseurs.
