(97-99 points) One of the finest Sauternes I've been lucky enough to taste in some time, the 2022 Château Suduiraut is 100% Sémillon that hit 13.9% natural alcohol, with 190 grams per liter of residual sugar. Still...

(TWI 95-97 points) The 2022 Suduiraut, 100% Semillon with 190 g/l residual sugar, is pale to medium lemon-straw in color. The nose is not at all shy, bounding from the glass with exuberant notes of peach preserves...

Decanter, April 2023

Gorgeous richness and juiciness, a compelling density and complexity, well constructed and poised. Refined but powerful, I love the intensity, really combines fruit fleshiness and unctuous acidity. Orange rind, but cool...

This Sauternes estate originally took the name Suduiraut in 1580, upon the marriage of Nicole d’Allard to Leonard de Suduiraut. After being plundered and burned down during the Fronde insurrection, in the 17th century it was rebuilt and renamed Cru du Roy by a nephew of the Suduiraut family, who planted magnificent formal gardens designed by Le Notre, King Louis XIV’s renowned gardener. The estate was designated Premier Cru status in the 1855 Classification.

AXA Millesimes acquired Suduiraut in 1992 with the aim of preserving and perpetuating the estate’s remarkable tradition of vineyard management and winemaking. 92 hectares of vineyard are planted in sandy, gravelly soil superbly suited to Semillon and Sauvignon grapes. Semillon, which represents 90% of the Suduiraut vineyard’s vine population, is the preferred variety for Sauternes. Its very thin skin is particularly sensitive to the Botrytis Cinerea that gives rise to noble rot, which in turn results in a wine which is concentrated both in sweetness and aroma. The blend is then rounded off with the addition of about 10% Sauvignon Blanc.

The vines’ age (a majority of them are over 30 years old) is a guarantee of exceptional quality, giving well-nourished and more concentrated grapes.

Classed as a Premier Cru in 1855, Suduiraut’s grand vin is made from 90% Semillon and 10% Sauvignon Blanc selected from the finest terroirs of the property. This wine is hand crafted at every stage, revealing remarkable finesse and complexity, and a golden color reminiscent of the sun that made it possible.

With age, the bright gold evolves to a dark amber color. With an extensive life-span, Suduiraut powerfully and harmoniously combines fruit and floral aromas with roasted and candied notes. Its superlative elegance comes from a combination of total opposites: voluptuous texture, mineral freshness, and the gentle warmth of spice notes.

The 2022 Chateau Suduiraut is a truly remarkable expression of the Sauternes Blend, hailing from the prestigious Bordeaux region of France. This white wine, bottled under cork, is a testament to the mastery of its producer, the acclaimed Chateau Suduiraut.

The wine's varietal composition is intriguing, as it is made from 100% Semillon, an occurrence that has only happened three times in the estate's history. This choice has resulted in a wine that is both complex and harmonious, a feast for the senses that promises to age gracefully from 2025 to 2060.

On the nose, this wine is a symphony of aromas. The prominent note of roasted nuts is complemented by a strong sense of botrytis, hinting at the wine's complexity and depth. As you dive deeper, you discover sumptuous notes of roasted apricots, pineapples, tangerine, and vanilla, all interwoven with a plethora of spices and drenched in honey.

On the palate, the 2022 Chateau Suduiraut is a powerhouse, offering an impressive concentration of flavors. Expect a medley of tropical fruits like orange, mango, and pineapple, all delivered with a racy assurance that speaks to the wine's freshness. The finish is long and satisfying, leaving a lingering taste of spice, chalk, and honey.

Critics have lavished praise on this wine, with Jeff Leve, Jeb Dunnuck, James Suckling, and others awarding it scores in the high 90s. They laud the wine's balance and concentration, its blend of richness and freshness, and its remarkable depth and power. This wine is not just a beverage, but an experience to savor.

In conclusion, the 2022 Chateau Suduiraut is a testament to the winemaking prowess of the Bordeaux region. A bottle of this wine promises not just a delicious drink, but a journey into the complexity and depth that a great Sauternes Blend can offer. Whether you are a seasoned wine connoisseur or a casual enthusiast, this wine is sure to impress and delight you.
