Gorgeous richness and juiciness, a compelling density and complexity, well constructed and poised. Refined but powerful, I love the intensity, really combines fruit fleshiness and unctuous acidity. Orange rind, but cool...

This Sauternes estate originally took the name Suduiraut in 1580, upon the marriage of Nicole d’Allard to Leonard de Suduiraut. After being plundered and burned down during the Fronde insurrection, in the 17th century it was rebuilt and renamed Cru du Roy by a nephew of the Suduiraut family, who planted magnificent formal gardens designed by Le Notre, King Louis XIV’s renowned gardener. The estate was designated Premier Cru status in the 1855 Classification.

AXA Millesimes acquired Suduiraut in 1992 with the aim of preserving and perpetuating the estate’s remarkable tradition of vineyard management and winemaking. 92 hectares of vineyard are planted in sandy, gravelly soil superbly suited to Semillon and Sauvignon grapes. Semillon, which represents 90% of the Suduiraut vineyard’s vine population, is the preferred variety for Sauternes. Its very thin skin is particularly sensitive to the Botrytis Cinerea that gives rise to noble rot, which in turn results in a wine which is concentrated both in sweetness and aroma. The blend is then rounded off with the addition of about 10% Sauvignon Blanc.

The vines’ age (a majority of them are over 30 years old) is a guarantee of exceptional quality, giving well-nourished and more concentrated grapes.

Classed as a Premier Cru in 1855, Suduiraut’s grand vin is made from 90% Semillon and 10% Sauvignon Blanc selected from the finest terroirs of the property. This wine is hand crafted at every stage, revealing remarkable finesse and complexity, and a golden color reminiscent of the sun that made it possible.

With age, the bright gold evolves to a dark amber color. With an extensive life-span, Suduiraut powerfully and harmoniously combines fruit and floral aromas with roasted and candied notes. Its superlative elegance comes from a combination of total opposites: voluptuous texture, mineral freshness, and the gentle warmth of spice notes.

The 2022 Chateau Suduiraut is an exquisite white wine hailing from the prestigious Sauternes region in Bordeaux, France. This wine is a true masterpiece, crafted with meticulous attention to detail by the renowned producer, Chateau Suduiraut.

In the glass, this wine displays a beautiful amber hue, captivating the eye with its rich and inviting color. On the nose, a symphony of aromas unfolds, showcasing a roasted nut profile that is complemented by a strong presence of botrytis. With each swirl, the wine releases enticing scents of roasted apricots, pineapples, and tangerine, all wrapped in a cloak of vanilla and a plethora of spices. These delightful flavors are further enhanced by the sweet embrace of honey, creating an aromatic experience that is both intense and alluring.

On the palate, the 2022 Chateau Suduiraut is concentrated and fresh, with a spicy, chalky texture that adds depth and complexity. The orange, mango, and pineapple notes shine through, delivering their pleasures with racy assurance. The finish is long and satisfying, leaving a lasting impression of pure indulgence.

This exceptional wine is made from 100% Semillon, a grape variety known for its ability to produce luscious and complex sweet wines. It is worth noting that this is only the third time in the history of the estate that a wine has been made exclusively from Semillon, making it a truly remarkable offering.

According to esteemed wine critics, the 2022 Chateau Suduiraut has garnered high praise and outstanding scores. With 99 points awarded by Jeff Leve, Jeb Dunnuck, and James Suckling, and 94 points from Vinous and 95 points from Decanter, it is clear that this wine is a true gem in the world of Sauternes.

To fully appreciate the splendor of this wine, it is recommended to cellar it for a few years before indulging in its delights. However, for those who cannot resist temptation, it can be enjoyed from 2025 onwards, with the potential to age gracefully until 2060.

In conclusion, the 2022 Chateau Suduiraut is a white wine of exceptional quality and complexity. It embodies the essence of Sauternes, offering a harmonious blend of flavors and aromas that will transport you to the vineyards of Bordeaux with every sip. This is a wine that deserves a place in any connoisseur's collection, and it is certain to delight even the most discerning palates.
