93+ It had been two years since I last tasted a bottle of the 2010 base year cuvée of the
George Laval “Cumières” Brut Nature and the wine has really started to blossom over the course
of that time. Most of the time, this cuvée is a blend of fifty percent chardonnay and twenty-five
percent each of pinot noir and pinot meunier, and this is indeed the case with the 2010 version.
The nose is still quite vibrant, but is starting to open up nicely, offering up a deep and pure
constellation of apple, peach, a superb base of soil, almonds, fresh-baked bread and a gently
floral topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, crisp and starting to really open up,
with a rock solid core, fine soil signature, elegant mousse and a long, focused, complex and very
classy finish. This is just a dynamite wine that is developing beautifully. I would be inclined to
still let it sit in the cellar a few more years, so that it can completely blossom. 2018-2040.
