The nose remains very restrained with aromas of green apple freshly baked brioche and citrus dissolves into intense pure and driving flavors that possess a wonderfully broad panoply of flavors that are gorgeously persistent. This is one of those rare Champagnes that can really have excellent flavor authority yet deliver it by dancing across the palate. While this doesn't seem to be quite at the level of the last release it's very close.

Pure, clear and fresh on the palate, very precise and mineral, this is a remarkably finesse-full and expressive Champagne. It was disgorged in June 2015 with nine grams of dosage, but it tastes significantly more dry. The finish is full of tension and minerals, which makes this a seriously expressive Champagne of great elegance and ageing potential. Tightly wound, the Vilmart takes some coaxing but has a lot on offer. The nose has a very focused mineral and chalky edge to it with a breadth of layers underneath. Fuji apple skin, brioche, grapefruit pith, tarragon, and a touch of anise. That palate comes across with a lovely, fine mousse and flavors reminiscent of the nose but with perhaps deeper fruit. This is delicious now and should only gain complexity and nuance with time. Drink now through 2022.
